Helping People Beyond the Preferred Self:

Concrete strategies to develop a more intense, sustainable, and flourishing self

Online Workshop #1
with Marie-Nathalie Beaudoin, Ph.D.

Monday, January 22, 2024, 4:00 -7:00 pm EST

Narrative therapy, inspired by Michael White and David Epston in the 1990s, has provided the world with many ways to help people overcome problems and navigate their lives according to deeply felt values. This therapeutic work contributes to people being more connected to their preferred self, in ways recognized and witnessed by others, and able to move forward in their lives aligned with meaningful purposes and dreams.  Positive psychology, mindfulness, and interpersonal neurobiology have shed new light on possibilities of flourishing, and ways of expanding this preferred self beyond individualistic understandings, thereby making it more sustainable. Marie-Nathalie will detail several practices that add three additional therapeutic components after a preferred self is identified and thickened. She will show videotapes of clinical applications of this work that result in people being fueled by their values in small and big ways and beyond the classic definition of a preferred self.

This workshop is the first in the Narrative Practices & Emotions Online Workshop Series with Marie-Nathalie and Gerald Monk. You can now register for the entire series at a discount, including the Book Launch. Re-Authoring Teaching members get further discounts.
