Course Description

Badge_NTInAction-QueerCounsel Narrative Practices & Queer Counseling offers 8 Lessons exploring strength-based narrative therapy in working with LGBTQ+ clients, their allies, friends and families. Issues include heterosexism and its discontents, privileging voices from the margins, navigating non-traditional relationships, and narrative approaches in the treatment of trauma. The course features topical readings, instructional videos, dyadic exercises, interactive Padlets, and two full clinical sessions, one with an individual and one with a couple. Check out sample videos below, introducing Lessons 2 and 3:

Charley Lang has been a narrative therapist and supervisor for the past 25+ years and is co-founder of Narrative Counseling Center in Los Angeles. As a professor of psychology at Antioch University, his courses include Madness in American History & Film, Shakespeare Deconstructed: Gender & Power Play, and Documentary Film & The American Psyche. Credits from his previous life as an actor include The West Wing, NYPD Blue, ER, and Star Trek: The Next Generation. An LGBTQ-rights activist, Charley produced and directed three award-winning documentary films, Live to Tell: The First Gay & Lesbian Prom in America (included in this course), Battle for the Tiara, and Gay Cops: Pride Behind the Badge. This course offering, Narrative Practices & Queer Counseling, is an online version of one of his most popular courses at Antioch.
