Chris Beels: Some historic conditions

Sarah Hughes (September 22, 2009) Thanks for all that info on Chris, Peggy.  I have met him briefly through Michael but did not know all what he has done or thought about in his career so you have sparked my interest to read more by him including his memoir kind of book. This particular article interested me as it gives kind of an overview of where narrative fits into the larger picture of family therapy [...]

Conversation with Chris Beels

This conversation began September 10, 2009. Chris Beels: I'm happy to be a guest author. I think the best way for me to participate is by getting posts in the mail from Peggy rather [...]

Reflections on FKC – Experiences of NT

March 6, 2014: Danielle Spletter  My experience of Narrative therapy thus far is that it is about- tapping into our lives as how they should be seen, multistoried! not summed up by a problem saturated dominate story. Narrative therapy is about the skillful use of language and enquiry questions being posed to clients by the therapist to make alternative stories more visible. The use of language needs to be meaningful to the person in their [...]

Reflections on Lesson 6 (FKC): Creating audiences

Peggy Sax Before joining this Conversation Forum , please review the materials in Lesson Six: Creating Audiences, Linking Lives & Building Community. In this section we review how narrative practitioners often seek to incorporate audiences in efforts such as letter-writing campaigns, outsider witness practices, reflecting teamwork, Tree of Life gatherings, ‘reclaiming community, and other community rituals. In narrative practice, “documentation” is not an ugly word. Instead, we often create living documents through text, [...]

Neighborly ways of being

Peggy: November 16, 2013 The “Microtraining video  “Neighborly Ways of Being: Social Healing through Therapeutic Conversations shows a conversation (28 minutes) between me and Sheila McNamee about “Neighborly Ways of Being” -  a term that I  sometimes use to describe work with people who consult with me to restore meaning and purpose while transforming painful experiences. Regina Jardim: October 31, 2010 Regina Jardim Dear  friends I met Michael White in a conference in Brazil, in the city of Porto Alegre in 2006. I was already quite familiar with the literature on Narrative Therapy but even thought I was entirely moved by his personal presence. I approached him and I said that I was so interested in his approach That I would like to do a PH.D. under his orientation. [...]

May 17, 2015 Collab Salon: Queer Counseling

As featured guest for our May Collab Salon, Charley Lang presented on the topic of Queer Counseling & Narrative Practice. Beginning with three definitions of "queer," he posed questions about how binaries are helpful and not helpful in our lives. Charley brought us through polarities, as expressed through a recent "pulp fiction" art project. Thank you, Charley for this presentation, and for being our Collab Salon co-host. Your keen intelligence, teaching skills and generosity of spirit are so appreciated by all. We look forward to more opportunities to learn from and with you!
