Delving into Difference Consultation Group
with Barbara (B.) Herring
Welcome! This consultation group is for people who are interested in having perhaps difficult or uncomfortable conversations around difference with regards to race and privilege in the therapy room. My hope is that this group will provide clinicians an opportunity to uncover possible blind spots and biases around differences and to work through situations or hiccups that we may have encountered in relationship to our clients and maybe our daily lives. Through direct conversation in a brave and safe space we will discuss topics/behaviors that may cause us hesitation in our conversations or with questioning our clients. Further, we will work together to formulate narrative language that may help us to access the unknown with our clients.
We will collaborate on clear guidelines for presenting our client work and my hope is that will all have a time to discuss our personal experiences. Our group will meet for 1.5 hours monthly via Zoom for 6 consecutive months to give ample time to experiment with what we have discussed and to continue discussing the challenges that may rise. This group is limited to 10 participants. The fee is $390. Beginning in September , the group will meet on the third Saturday of the month 12-1:30 pm EST (9-10:30 am PST time): September 21, October 19, November 16, December 21, January 18 and February 15. We will record each Zoom session so anyone who can’t make it to a particular session can watch the video afterward. The video would only be available to participants, and if everyone agrees, we can even delete it at the end of the course (since we will be consulting each other).
If you have any program questions, don’t hesitate to contact me at empowermenttherapynow@gmail.com or Contact for registration questions.
