We asked practitioners, “What are you most excited about in your everyday practice?” and this is what emerged. These courses explore cutting edges in practice by experienced narrative practitioners. Our first course in this series—Queer Counseling and Narrative Practice with Charley Lang—began in September, 2014, and Escaping Blame: Helping Couples Develop Account-Ability with Larry Zucker opened in September 2016. Both are currently open for registration at any time! Additional Narrative in Action mini courses now in development include Em-BODY-ing Conversations with Lynne Rosen and Therapeutic Conversations at the End-of-Life with Sasha Pilkington.

Em-BODY-ing Conversations with Lynne Rosen
Here we will meet with Joel, who is 16 and has met with his counsellor 8 times. Joel has very irregular school attendance and when he does, he has panic attacks. His family migrated from South Africa when he was 12. His father has a long history of drug addiction and violence against Joel’s mother as well as Joel. Joel also has assaulted his mother. His parents are considering divorce. Prospects for his future appear very bleak save his aspiration to become a veterinarian.

Here we will meet Jane and her son, Tim. Jane and her then partner, who both were involved with drugs, had Tim, then aged 2 and his sister removed from their care by the Child, Youth and Family Services(CYFS) after the death of two other children on account of their neglect. Tim had many failed 14(?) foster/group home placements. This meeting takes place after 2 years(104 visits) when CYFS has withdrawn any further surveillance.
